What’s the difference between a passport
and a passport card – who needs which one?
With the need for heightened security,
Congress passed the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative Act in 2004 - WHTI -
which was fully implemented in June, 2009.
It has required that U.S. Citizens only traveling to Canada,
Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean use the new passport card. An adult Passport Card looks similar to a
driver’s license, and is valid for ten years. Cost for a first-time card
is $55, and $30 to renew. Passport cards for minors cost $40 first time
