USA tourist documentation, visas,  passports, needs, tourist dangers are presented

What’s the difference between a passport and a passport card – who needs which one?
With the need for heightened security, Congress passed the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative Act in 2004 - WHTI - which was fully implemented in June, 2009.  It has required that U.S.  Citizens only traveling to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean use the new passport card.  An adult Passport Card looks similar to a driver’s license, and is valid for ten years.  Cost for a first-time card is $55, and $30 to renew.  Passport cards for minors cost $40 first time or renewal, and must be renewed every five years.   Apply Here
What are the most dangerous countries to US Citizens?
Just because a country is listed by the State Department doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s hazardous to your health. You’re not likely to be mugged in Eritrea, murdered in Iran, or carjacked in Uzbekistan. And there can be

plenty of upsides to visiting a “dangerous” country: Eritrea, for one, has everything from Art Deco buildings to a scenic railroad and a gorgeous coastline.
So do these places deserve your business, or merely a fleeting glimpse of your rapidly disappearing backside? It’s not always an easy call. The State Department warnings can be as commerce-inhibiting as a big-time critic’s pan of an over hyped Broadway turkey. On the other hand, if your safety is at risk, those travel warnings could save your life. The State Department posts travel warnings when “protracted conditions” make a country dangerous, according to the director of the department’s Office of American Citizens Services and Crisis Management. “The whole purpose is to make sure people have enough information to plan their travels overseas.”

Do some countries require that you have a valid passport and a visa?
Yes.  Korea, China, Brazil, Russia, India, Thailand, Vietnam, and Egypt have special tourist visa requirements (most common).  Almost 100 countries do not require visas for U.S. citizens to enter, though they do require entrants to have passports. Countries commonly put limits on the length of stay without a visa. U.S. visitors can stay anywhere from 14 days to six months without having to get a visa, with the majority of countries requiring residence visas after three months.  Apply Here
Is it required to get shots?
Make sure you are up to date on your shots and vaccinations and get any that might be required for your itinerary.  Make sure to visit your doctor at least four to six weeks before traveling to Europe to get any required shots and update any normal adult immunizations recommended by the CDC. Some immunizations take days to become effective and you want to make sure you are protected before you travel.
